tricky problem

Hello

I am experiencing a tricky problem.
Some important keys of of my 470 CDT Toshiba laptop stopped functioning.
I wanted to go on working and tried to swich to an external keyboard (via BIOS). But no avail. The internal keyboard did not let me switch to the external keyboard just because of those faulty keys! (And a lot of beeping)
No money at this moment to find a new internal keyboard.
Is there a possibility of using a external USB-Keyboard?
Do I have to uninstall all drivers of the internal keyboard because of this interference.
Can I disable the internal keyboard in another phisical way.

I haven't tried a keyboard on my laptop, however I have a usb floppy and mouse connected and it installs and finds the drivers by itself. What OS is your's running ?????

i would imagine you would have to install some drivers in windows to get it to use an external (especially usb) keyboard. you can always use a mouse to install the drivers (i think it's even possible to pull up an on screen keyboard under accesibility), then when you reboot you should be all right

I am running win98SE. The problem is the internal keyboard which behaves strangely. I can not depend on it. With some trouble I get into Windows. But the situation is unstable. (because of an electrical shortcut in the keyboard?)
The USB keyboard I have to lend from a friend. I hope this will be a temporal solution. But how to install USB-drivers when windows behaves so unstable?
