rockwell riptide combo card
I have a friend who has a hp 6553 his modem no longer works. His machine has a riptide combo card. If he replaces the modem will he also have to replace the sound card ?

Does the sound card work?
If it does, then you should be able to still use it. I know most hp's don't have many slots, so if you can get another modem, you shouldn't have any problem with it. If you do have a spare slot, you could always get a better sound card as well that doesn't have software emulation. That is if you have any spare expansion slots and can just throw out the hp modem.
