Is it a disc with something on it already? Like burned with nero and youre trying to add more on it from windows? If so it won't work that way.
The impossible takes more time, and costs more money.

then i think you have to pop in a blank cd-rw (i think it HAS to be rewritable) and format it for windows writing. a popup box should come up and ask you what action to take. if not then my computer, right click on cd writer, properties, autoplay, select blank cd from the dropdown box and open writable cd folder. also you should check the recording tab to make sure it is enabled for that drive.

easier to use packet writing or multisession from a proper burning proggie, imo. u make less coasters.

did all that, message comes up that says: The disk in the drive is not a writable CD or is full. (neither of which is true)

but is it a FRESH BLANK because windows needs to format the disk for its packet writing system i think.

it will never be a fresh blank but once. i want to be able to update data on a daily basis. it will take 365 disc/year if that is the case. on floppies u can add data daily. maybe i need a new cd writing program or new hardware. thanx for your input

as i said use multisession from nero or similar burning proggie. you should be able to add to your windows burned cd, BUT i think windows has to do an initial format oin the FRESH BLANK disk to set it up ready for this. i don't know how well other packet writing programs work with each other, but i suspect it's not very well. multisesh however is standard, just don't finalize your disc until your through adding new files for good on that disk.

Help! Trying to burn CD's from vinyl. Have Soundblaster5Live. Also turntable and mixer. Don't know where to plug mixer in on turntable.

i think you should have started a new thread alan, but phono sockets from turntable to line in on soundcard or to preamp to soundcard. by mixer do you mean amp or preamp. on mixer you culd look for line in or similar. should be phono plugs all the way except for perhaps the soundcard where a 3.5 millimetre stereo jack is more likely.

Hello Allan!
And welcome to Techimo.
Please understand that your turntable will probably have to be routed through a preamp before you can record from vinyl. Vinyl used some EQ to help compensate for the limitations of the technology. This EQ was called the "RIAA curve". This EQ is applied in the preamp. If your mixer has a "mag phono" input use it; THAT will accomplish the same thing. Now you should be able to connect from the record out jacks on the mixer to your sound card input. I am not familiar with your card so I cannot comment on the connections involved.
The idea is to record to the PC at as high a level as you can WITHOUT distorting. You can get a guess as to the level by trying the needle on the record at various LOUD passages and checking the signal level. Distortion caused by too high a level when recording digital is an ugly sound.
Hopefully that will get you started.
