| audio connections????????
I'm totally confused on the audio connections for surround sound on computers. I know the mobo i'm getting (NF7-S) has line in/out (thats familiar) and s/pdif (WHAT IS THAT????) and I want to know how I can figure out if a set of speakers works with it. |

According to your motherboard specifications:
- 1 x S/PDIF Out port
- Audio connectors (Front Speaker, Line-in, Mic-in, Center/Sub, Surround Speaker)
The S/PDIF is a single digital output connector for all 6 channels. This connector works with speakers that have a single S/PDIF input. (The standard color is a yellow RCA-type)
If you do NOT have a S/PDIF set of speakers, you probably have the regular 'analog' connections. In most speaker setups, you have 3 plugs (Front Speaker, Center/Sub Speakers, and Surround Speakers). The typical colors of the plugs are Green, Orange, Black.
Your motherboard can support BOTH S/PDIF or the 3 plug style for a total of 6 speakers (L/R Front, Center/Sub, L/R Surround)
If you know the brand/model of the speakers, I can look up what it supports for ya.

I looked around, tried to find some info on them, but couldnt find much. Any specifications I saw didnt mention S/PDIF, so I might assume they are 'analog' with 3 jacks.
Either way, you should be pretty safe, considering your motherboard supports BOTH S/PDIF and analog |

S/PDIF (Sony/Philips Digital InterFace) is used for the Klipsch GMX D-5.1 speakers and rich people with home theatre systems that accept digital audio inputs. If your asking what this is, you don't need it. |
