| Windows Explorer slow when opening folder
Hi
I'm running XP Pro with SP 1 and all the updates from MS. However my windows explorer has been behaving really slowly. For example there is this one folder which whenever I click on it, Explorer freezes for about 15 secs before showing its contents.
Is this a common bug, and what can I do about it? I'll defrag today, but on my XP2100+ it really shouldnt be that slow.
Thanks |

13 seconds to open a folder with 30 files and 700mbs in total. Ridiculous. |

Open Task Manager and see if there are any processes that are hogging your processor. When left idle, the only process you should see using the processor is System idle Process. All others should be using less than 1% if any...

explorer.exe is using up the processor which runs at 100% capacity when I click on that folder. Now what does that mean? |

How about when you don't do anything? just leave the system still and tell me what is using the processor... |

Ok, so it only happens when you run explorer.exe... Check the properties on the explorer.exe file and tell the version and file size to the last byte... |

Explorer.exe
Version: 6.00.2800.1106
File size: 980 KB (1,004,032 bytes)
Size on disk: 984 KB (1,007,616 bytes)
What does that tell you? |
