fried mobo/need upgrading help

First off I fried my mobo. Now Im about to upgrade to a Nforce2 mobo but I know that I wont be able to boot my hard drive in my new mobo. How do I go about upgrading my mobo then?

OS: Windows XP pro

Why wouldn't you be able to boot with the new motherboard? The XP stuff? It shouldn't hassle you too badly.

See the thing is whenever I transfer my hard drive to another computer with a different mobo it says OS not found. But then I tried it on my brothers old computer with the same exact kind of mobo I just fried and it boots. It seems like I cant use other mobo's with my hard drive.

Also when I set my hard drive as slave and another hard drive that is not windows xp and is fat32 the system doesnt recognize my hard drive.(This was before I fried my mobo so the drive was for sure working properly)

My hard drive is NTFS format.

Thumbs up

Just boot from the CD with the XP disc installed and re-install XP saving your settings.

My hard drive is NTFS format.

If you boot an older OS (ie:WIN98) that doesn't support NTFS, then it won't recognize the NTFS drive. (but it should still be detected in BIOS)

Also: make sure the drive is properly jumpered for the configuration you are using. Some brands can be a little picky - ie: a WD drive set as master won't work if there's no slave drive installed on the channel.

Pickel,

Thanks for the suggestion. Ill try that tomorow since thats when the parts are coming.

ragtop,

It is still recognized in the bios. The only thing is that after like 2 min of not booting up, it says OS not detected.

Are you saying my drive will be recognized if I made a drive thats NTFS with windows xp as master and mine as slave?

Thanks for the help

Ill check back tomorow if I have further problems.
