| reinstall norton firewall and systemworks after crash
Dell dimension 4400, system crashed (XP), and I reinstalled it successfully. But after reinstalling the two Norton programs, they would not work. The Virus program will not accept updates and the Firewall will not "enable". I'm just slightly more than a newbie and I hope this is just something simple that I am overlooking. Thanks for any suggestions. |

the norton program were included in the drive image?
can you uninstall and reinstall them? do you have a seperate CD for them? do you get an error message(s)?

Thanks, sixfoot4. I get this error message with live update: LU1806, followed by LU1821. Following up on LU1821, it looks like it could be several things. I do have a separate CD for the Norton programs, and tried uninstalling and reinstall with the same results. I'm guessing at something, and would appreciate your advice. After the crash, I did what I think is called a "repair install", which saved some files, and I wonder if those saved files are interferring. If I do a "clean install" do you think I'll have better luck? It's just that it took me three days to learn how to do the install, and I hate to do it all over again, but I sure don't want to leave my computer unprotected. Thanks so much!
By the way, in the event I picked up a worm or trojan or virus, would a clean install totaslly wipe them out? |

yes a clean install would do wipe that. and yes i believe the old files are causing this issue. i would back up what files you want to keep to a cdr or something and reformat the pc with your restore disks. goodluck! and dont hesitate to ask if you need some more help! |

Hi, I have a very similar problem to this using NIS2004, only, it's the second time it's happen d within 4 weeks now. A clean install does seem to work, but I don't want to have to uninstall then reinstall NIS every month....I mean, I pay for this for christs sake, I shouldn't have to.
I've tried everything on the Symantec website, including deleting liveupdate.dll or whatever, then running lusetup.exe again. That doesn't work, but thats the only advice they give.
Can anyone help? |
