| Emachine powers but no boot
I am new to the forum but you guys have the best posts on many issues. I have an Emachine W1500, WinXP home,1600AMD processor, 128MB, 40 MB hard drive. It has CDRW, and a cable modem attached via USB. When it was 3 months old I would push the power button but it would not boot, just the fans would run. If I unplugged the power cord and repluged and tried again it would come on. It only did this a few times. Now it is over a year and here we go again but for good. As is starting going out the "white emachine screen" would come up with lines in the bottom then power off. The key board will not light up. The monitor is fine, I checked it. I tried a new outlet, nothing. I can't figure this out. Please help, before I hire a tech person and pay a fortune.
Thanks |

Hi,
did you try to reset the CMOS? There is a jumper on the motherboard that should reset it for you, or try removing the battery on the motherboard and let it sit for like 30-45mins... then put the battery back in and try to turn it on.
hope it helps,
paul

amd's are notorious for producing excessive heat. Excessive heat will do exactly what is happening in your situation. Will boot some and then shut off. make sure the fan in the middle of the motherboard sticking up off it is spinning when you try to power on. (If you feel like it, try keeping the side open and put a window fan next to it and put it on medium or high and try booting then its a possibility. And make sure that there are no wires just laying around (everything should be connected to something or the other). Last but not least make sure your video card is secure in the socket. You may or may not have one depending on you pc model. It is a card that sticks in the motherboard and the back of it shows out the back bottom of the pc. Make sure that is firmly in the motherboard from inside. .. Besidies that cant really think of any other solutions, good luck |
