not getting much help in this thread,so i thought i d combine that thread with this one.
is it possible for a bios to get messed up from a power surge ?
the video card tested fine.
the case fan issue is solved.
but it will not post with the gf3,but will go thru the post codes, hangs on 7f,then when i hit f2,it will go thru the codes to FF.but this is with a radeon le vid card.
i tried switching cards with another machine(a gf2) . neither cards fan works in my machine, but both cards(and fans) work in the other machine.
any help what/so/ever would be apprecaited.
epox 8rda+/xp 1500/gf3 ti200/win xp pro
thanks.

Possibly the Motherboard was damaged, Or it could be the PSU.
Both can easily be affected by a power surge. |

Get your system down to the bare bones...connect nothing that can be left off. For a system to boot, all that is needed is a motherboard, ram module, video card and monitor...cpu and heatsink, plus the psu of course. No keyboard or drives should be attached.. the idea being is to get back to basics and see if it will work, if it boots without errors..then add one item at a time back until it fails. Your psu could have chosen this particular time to die or partially die on you. Look at the back of the case to be sure you did not inadvertently move the psu switch from 110 to 230.. that can happen, and the system will not have enough voltage to work properly.

I've dealt with the power surge problem myself. I burned out 2 mobo's until I got a UPS with AVR. I bought the Belkin 800. |

tried booting with only the basics as posted above by bovin. no change. still stops at post code 1d with the gf3(and no vid signal at all).and i get a vid signal on screen, but massivly errored, and a post code hang at 7f with the radeon le.
i tried a different psu(brand new 350w) and get the same results.
my extremely limited knowledge is hinting that possibly could something have happened to the bios chip since i cannot get to it? Quote: |

i need a prozac drip
any ideas other than the violent ones i m having are welcome
thanks to all,eh?
