| help ironing the bugs out
i've had a few bugs since i built this system, and they come and go, right now they are getting worse. I'll list the things i noticed below, i have no idea if they are related or not, any help on all or some would be helpful and appreciated: also here is my system:
cpu temp is around 78 degrees on a warm day, i have three intake fans and a dual exhaust.
processor: amd athlon xp 2500 Barton +
mobo: asus a7n8x deluxe ver.2
hd: 160 gig maxtor max blast 7200 rpm 8mb cache
memory: 512 mb ddr crucial brand
vid card: 8X agp nvidea type
floppy: an offbrand
cd/rw: maddog dominator 52X24X52
thermaltake keyboard and mouse
cheapo monitor
psu: 450 w dual fan (offbrand)
hope this helps you help me
HERE'S THE PPROBLEMS:
1) a very quick and loud clicking sound when i start my comp, it's between my mobo logo screen and windows bootup screen. it's coming through the speakers
2) when i first start up the comp and go to control panel, instead of it showing system, keyboard, speakers, et ecetera.. it shows program icons, it will show the other stuff like it is supposed to after the comp has been on for a few minutes
3) when i open internet explorer, say i go to resellersratings.com, i have to right click on forums and open in a new window or else i can't open the page, if i click on the link it'll just refresh the page i'm already on, i have to do this three times (right click and open in a new window) and then everything will be fine, i can then open a link by double left clicking
4) sometimes, when writing in a text field such as this one, all of a sudden my cursor starts going backwards deleting what i've written, i have to hit a key to make it stop
5) recently i've gotten a screeching noise when i boot on the comp and at various times, whether i'm using it or not it'll just give out a short screeeeeech. it's coming through the speakers
6) UPDATED: forgot this one... when i right click a link to open in a new window it makes a machione gun sound (that's the only was i know to describe it). it also does this when i open spybot, norton etcetera, and i click on :EXAMPLE: norton open no sound, i click on clean sweep and it makes the sound until i either get out of it, or contiue with the cleansweep process until i hit the finish button, it does it on all features not just cleansweep.
i think that's everything, if i remember something later on i'll update it... also i've ran norton virus and AVG, both show the system is clean, i've also run spybot s&d

What is the temp of your cpu?
Also, most people list all of their setup in their beginning post so that when we read about your problems, we may see something that is a known anomaly with some certain configuration...so, please list your system..down to the make/model and watts of your psu.

First off, If you're going to post your system specs, it's not a good idea to edit your original post after someone has asked you what they are...IMO makes for a confusing thread and may make the person who responded look like they're not paying attention (?If I've got this wrong, correct me Bovon? mod?). But at any rate...
IMO your CPU temp is MUCH too high for a barton core CPU (assuming that 78 is cesius and at idle). I run a barton 2800+ (43c at 100% load for 2 hours, room temp @76*f). High CPU temps alone can cause all kinds of anomilies. 3 intake and dual exhaust-is the dual exhaust through the psu, or is it in addition to the psu? If it is in addition to the psu, you may not have enough airflow through the case (i.e.; more air trying to leave than is being introduced=vaccuum effect=more heat). Also, did not see what HSF you're using in your system specs. Is it rated for your CPU?
Another thing to consider (AFTER managing CPU temps) would be the possibility of a "joke program". A joke program can cause strange things to happen (cursor moving backwards, screen flipping upside-down, ect...). You mention Spybot. What other spyware/adware/malware detection program(s) do you use? Would recommend Adaware or Pest Patrol to suppliment Spybot.
