Question
Does my new case have enough power?

Hi all,
I just won a dutch auction on ebay for a 300w atx case.. paid 25 bucks including shipping.
Well, it arrived today, it's nothing fancy, but if it works, hey, the price is right!

Anyway, i am wondering about the amperage of the ps. I have heard that the new XP chips have to have a certain amount of power? I am getting ready to build a new system, was going to use this case.

On the ps it says

King Star
Model: KC-300 ATX

Output: 300w max
+5v 35A
+12v 12A
+5vSB 1.0A
+3.3v 14A
-12v 1A
-5v .5A

Is this enough power?

You could also go to AMD's website and search the name of the power supply to see if it is on the "approved"list for the processor that you have.
If not, you might need to find one that is compatable.
I would think that if you wanted to try that supply it might work, but if you start having system problems with the XP, you will have to find another power supply.
just float "power supplies" on their(AMD's) search and it should show a table for the XP processors

It really depends on how many other devices you are running in your computer, and how much power they require. I ran my Athlon 1.33Ghz on a 250W power supply with 2 HD's, DVD-ROM, CDRW, Voodoo 3 2000, Modem, SB sound card, and 2 case fans for about 6 months with no problems before the PS finally gave up.

I would say give it a shot. If it doesn't work properly then go buy an Enermax (that's what I replaced mine with, works great!). It doesn't hurt to try.

Most 300W supplies support AMD XP up to 1900+
It just depends if you hooked allot of other stuff on the PS like fans, drives, case mods and so on. For normal use it would be suitable.

i'd be carefull especially running a cd-rw and a geforece card and a 7200 rpm hard disk these puppies draw a lot of current. personally i'd go for it as ive run more than you have on a 300 with out any problem.

I recently upgraded my moms computer from a PII 450 to a Duron 900@1008 in a Micron case with a 200w PSU and it's been rock stable since the day I fired it up.. No probs since I've taken it back to her and my brother is on it everyday so I must say I'm very impressed with 1) Micron's case design made the upgrade very very easy no probs at all. 2) The quality of their PSU seeing how it's still going strong.
