No Signal happens...but only sometimes

I have a strange problem. I have a Dell computer and flat screen
monitor. When I try to run two different games (Freelancer and
1942) I get a "No signal" screen while in the middle of the game.

The sound card is still active and it sounds like the game is still running, but the screen just stops displaying anything.

I have updated to the latest DirectX and done a dxdiag check on the drivers and all of this checks outs.

I have also used msconfig to bring up the computer with a clean boot so that no other programs are running in the background. This helped some, but the problem still ocurrs.

I have read the other problems about the no signal error, but this problem is different. It does not happen at any other time and I have checked the connections...So I don't think it is directly related "only" to the monitor....My best guess was the DirectX drivers, but dxdiag and the new drivers did not solve the problem.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to TechIMO

IMO, the problem is video...either card or drivers...or both.

If the card is AGP.. I would take a look at it..AGP video cards must absolutely be seated perfectly, front and rear. Take the mounting screw out and press the card down into its socket front and rear..is the metal mounting bracket still flush with its mounting place? (rear of the case). If....when you place the mounting screw back in..it must pull downwards to meet the case..that little strain is enough to slightly raise the rear of the card and cause a failure periodically.

Display card problem. Latest DirectX should have not be a problem. You may want to get a proper display card
