Did ya get it yet, Jacob?
if using the command line, try MOVE instead of COPY - that'll fix it, everytime!!
if using explorer, instead of just dragging and dropping, use the RIGHT mouse button to drag and drop. It's pop up a menu of what to do, then.
Cheers
Mick

If dragging and dropping, then hold down [SHIFT] to move [CTRL] to copy [ALT] to create a shortcut to the file |

| But how about by default?
I want the files to MOVE and not copy... by default.
I moved "My Documents" to D, and now, on the desktop, when I drag files into it, it copies rather than moves (this is because it's on another drive).
How can I change the default to MOVE instead? Is it possible? |

It's a Windows thing. If you're going from one folder to another within the same drive, it will move the files. When going from drive to drive, it will copy.
All you need to do is hold the shift key to move instead of copy. Not too hard. |

Also, if you are using the right click to do this then use CUT and PASTE instead of COPY and PASTE. |

| Thank you all for your quick replies...
...but... I know about the control key, and all the rest... that's not gonna help me. Call me lazy. I want the DEFAULT to be move... and not copy... so I was hoping there's a registry edit or something like that.
Any advice?
Thanks,
Michelle |

I've started holding down the shift key as I move the files (which isn't that often...) but I'd still love to know if there IS a way to do it. I guess not. Maybe I should call Bill? You got his cell number? |
