Problems with XP

Here's the situation: My personal computer is an AMD athalon XP 2200 series, and i'm running 128 MB of RAM, with Windows XP. I think I should be able to multitask (which is crucial in video editing) but my computer hangs up, even when I'm doing something simple, like ripping a DVD and tryingto open a notepad file at the same time. seems logical that i can do it, but in reality, I can't. I'm thinking that there's a lot of programs running in the background of XP that are, in fact, unnecesary. which ones can I kill to better improve my processing?
Second question: Is there a way to customize your installation of XP Pro instead of the default?
And last, what information is there on microsoft's new OS that's supposed to be the successor to XP?

You need more RAM. 128MB just isn't going to cut it. It'll barely run XP, let alone allow you to multitask or edit video.

Put in at least 256MB just to let XP run smoothly w/ simple tasks. 512MB if you really wanna do some video editing.

Turn off all the "eye candy" to get as much out of it as possible.

Longhorn isn't going to be out for quite sometime, I can guarantee, it will tax your system more than XP does. It's all about the "eye candy".

In short, you need more RAM.

for video editing you might even want to consider getting 1gb of ram. i would check the startup list in msconfig and see if there are any program that dont need to run. also you might want to get spybot and adaware to make sure there aren't any adware or junk running on your system which might be causing problems.

Actually, Video Editing isn't too dependent on RAM for the process. it's actually more proccessor-based. It takes about a half-hour for me to render what I need to render (of course, with all the fade-aways and tranceparencies, and other visual effects, this canbe expected...) in a 4 minute video clip. Not bad, really. Actually, I need RAM for the more mundane stuff, Gaming and Word processing and other stuff.

Nestorath69,
128 mb, youre kidding right?
You surely must notice the massive ammt of disk activity on your system

For what you said you want to do, even on a budget 512 mb would be the absolute minimum.

128mb WoW

Ok, on to other things, check out this site, read carefully, and decide if this works for you:
