Is a Driver needed?

Ok, I recently had to reformat my harddrive so I lost all my drivers and stuff. I have a GCC-4480B 48x24x48x16 CD-RW/DVD drive. It can read CDs, and burn perfectly, but it can't play DVD's. I've tried both DVD's and VCD's but neither would work. I was just wondering if I needed a driver for this? Thanks in advance.

No, you need software like PowerDVD, WinDVD, or maybe some that came w/ your video card.

yes, usually the software comes with the dvd..but you can also use Windows Media player 9 or Real Player also...maybe not all the functions but the basics.

EvilRick - I was using Power DVD.
JP - I would do that but WMP 9 isn't compatible with WIN 98, and I don't like Real Player.

No errors, just a message that says "No disk in drive D:".

Hmm, if you've got all the video and mobo drivers installed it should work.

I wonder if it's an ASPI layer problem?

You could try ForceASPI 1.8 and see if it fixes it. Be sure to use the "dumpASPI" first to backup your current files . . . just in case.

Thats correct John...WMP 9 is not compatible with Win98...only Win98SE. I have both 98 and 98SE (two different machines) and D/L WPM 9..only to discover it would not work with 98 1st. ed. (readme.txt file). Went back to M$ and read..absolutely nothing said about the two different versions of 98... I wrote M$ and thanked them profusely for the oversight and nearly an hour of dialup download time. M$ did not respond, but a few days later.. I rechecked for WPM 9...and there was a statement on the page that WPM 9 was for Win98SE up...LOL!!!
