Old hard drive won't install on my new computer

I bought an external storage enclosure kit (Back-upQ) and fitted my hard drive from my old PC in it. According to the user guide it should install automatically in Win2k pro without the need for drivers from the CD install disk. it connects via a USB 2 port).

When I connect it to the new PC and started it up, it recognized the new hardware and a message came up saying the software about to install does not contain a Microsoft digital signature, there is no guarantee it will work with windows. I click the continue install button anyway and it asks for the CD install disk? I put in the CD and nothing happens. An icon then appears in the system tray showing that no drives are detected.
In the system info under problem devices, storage / volume is listed, with the error code 28.
The annoying thing is that when I connected it to a system using winME it installed with no problem at all.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My system spec:
Win2k pro
Athlon XP 2800
Asus A7V8X-X mobo
GeForce4 FX5200

Welcome to the forum!

do you have all the updates etc for win2k?

(just a guess, no idea otherwise, lol)

is there any way you can MANUALLY look on the disk for the driver when it tries to install?

Also, isnt there a setting on Win2k about driver signing? I wonder what option you have chosen there?

Hey JP,
It came with Service Pack 4 already installed.
I did look for the drivers on the CD but there are none specifically for win2k because the manual said it would not need the drivers on the disk for win2k. This was also true for winME and the HD installed on that without the need for any drivers from the disk.

Also, when it gives the first warning about no digital sig, and I click on no to the continue install, it says that an error occured during installation and the form specified for the subject is not one supported or known by the specified trust provider.

oh, well it doesnt matter if the thing is signed or not..you just click "continue" or whatever..signing just means it has passed thru the microsoft compatablilty lab blah blah..but not every manufacturer even sends stuff to the msoft lab (too expensive).
