PC Problem

Hi all, I'm need to fix somebody's computer. It's a home brew that the dude bought second hand a little while ago. It's got a Duron 800mhz, 256mb RAM, and I don't exactly remember the mobo and I don't really feel like going to look @ it now. Well, here's the story. He tells me that it just all of a sudden just started booting to a blinking cursor and not doing anything else. It just sits there @ the blinking cursor. I've checked the boot order in the BIOS, jumper settings on the drives, and I even checked to see if the floppy drive was bad. I just can't figure out what's wrong w/ it. It won't boot from anything whether it be a floppy, hdd, or a cd-rom. It has ME on it so I thought that ME was just f'ed up like it normally would be and needed to have 2k installed on it which I was planning to do. What do you all think could be the problem? Please let me know. Thanks!

Well, it posts successfully, It just never boots. It goes through where it detects the IDE drives and the CPU...then it just goes to a blinking cursor. I can't find anything wrong w/ the machine itself. It beeps just once like it should and detects all of the drives in the correct order. I've made sure all of the connections were good and secure. Other than that I just don't know what to think of.
