Explorer problems
Hi guys and gals. It seems like I always have problems with my computer. I really wish I could figure some of this stuff out on my own.
Well this is my problem.. Many times when I try to open a folder on my desktop I will get this error message...
http://server5.uploadit.org/files2/281203-prob.gif
The message at the top is the message I get when I view what the error report contains.
Everything on my desktop will dissapear until I hit "don't send" then everything will come back after a few seconds, but the folder I originally clicked on won't actually open until I click on it again. The second time I double click on a folder it will open with no problems.
It won't happen for every single folder on my desktop... Usually the first time it happens is when I click on "My Documents" and it will normally happen for a few other folders as well.
I use Windows XP Home Edition.
Any help would be great. Thanks.Last edited by zepherim; December 27th, 2003 at 10:42 PM.

It dosen't explain much but brings up the question (no accusations here but) is your copy of XP a pirate copy or a legit copy?If you can't say something nice... SAY IT REALLY LOUD!!

Yes, it is a legal copy of Windows XP Home edition. I paid $90 for it, and it has been working very well up until just recently when this problem started.Originally posted by DoctorReno

I also went to Microsoft knowledge base and entered the error. There are a lot of hits there. Go the the site and see if anything is appropriate to your problem.

I meant I got the error message that is in the picture at that link. Not that the link is the actual error message. I'm sorry, I should have been more clear on that.

standard things to do.
install, update and run "adaware 6" www.lavasoftusa.com
run free virus scan at www.antivirus.com
do all windows updates.
one way to probably fix it is to just do a "repair" of the install, boot off the cd, dont do the first "r" for repair...cuz that is just the recovery console, but choose to repair the windows install when it finds it."Even a fool is thought to be wise if he is silent"

you can also turn off error reporting altogether....Im not sure what that would make it do, I guess it would just crash the explorer but you wouldnt get that error message everytime at least.

One other thing-it gives the following option in that error screen:
To view technical information about the error report "click here".
The information you get through that link may indicate what is happening that is causing IE to close.4200+x2,a8n-sli premium,2gig pc3500,7800gt,7x sata hdds (160gig-320gig),2x dvdrw,630w psu, gigabyte aurora

Looks like Ford production in Australia will be shut down by 2016. That likely means saying goodbye to the Falcon. :/
