CPU Fan

I have an ASUS P2B mobo with a PII 400. The CPU fan keeps squealing. I've replaced the fan several times now but after a few months of use it starts again. Mobo problem? I don't know what causes it. Any ideas out there?

Is it the fan that came with the CPU or is it off the shelf?

If you are looking for advice-- If you are going to overclock thermaltake volcano 7 or 9 are good fans but are very noisey. And if you are looking for something quiet glacialtech makes the silent breeze line with solid copper heatsinks. I prefer the glacialtech.

Well it's a homemade box, so the original fan came with the cpu. I have since replaced the fan twice. ASUS no longer supports the board, so that was a dead end.

look for a better quality fan.
the cpu fan has nothing to do with anything.
it is just a small fan and most anything will work.
cheep quality fans don't last very long.

look for good ball bearing type fans

i agree. check for the quality of the fan that you are going to buy. you better change brand names. Good luck! dB

Thanks for the input, I'll check what brand the current fan is and try to find something better I guess.
