New computer not booting up*NEED HELP ASAP*

Okay, a friend of mine is having trouble getting his brand new home-built computer fired up. I don't know any brands or model numbers.

He has tried disconnecting everything but the RAM and vid card. Nothing happens, no beep, no post or anything. The cpu fan spins and a green light on the mobo light up however. Evidently it starts but after that it just sits there and doesn't have any signal going to the monitor. Any ideas? I'm trying to get more info too.

This is going to be a server computer, so the quicker he can get it up and running, the better. Thanks in advance!

*edit* I did do a search but couldn't find anything.

Welcome to TechIMO!!

With the limited amount of info here all I can suggest is to re-seat the card, ram, and cpu.

Double and triple check the connectors.

This is such a common issue these days

Only so many things it could be really.

Video card not seated properly.

Or...and I had this EXACT issue a few days ago.....the motherboard is somehow "shorting" out by touching the case etc....I had a comp doing the same thing....when I plugged it in it come on..the power switch had no effect either way...but the video never kicked on....so I took the motherboard back out of the case and booted it just sitting on a piece of non-static foam on the table..and it worked fine....so it had to be shorting against the case somehow.

Thats one of the main things to check when building a comp yourself.....lots of times you have no choice but to pull the motherboard back out and set it on a table and try it. Usually you use the piece of anti static foam that it came with and you set it on top of the motherboard box so that the video card has some room to "hang down" without hitting the table.....then you try to boot from there.

You can use a spare hard drive jumper to momentarily short the two pins where the power switch normally goes...or use a flatblade scerwdriver if you are the careful type.

Yes, I know this isn't enought info. This is actually a friend at another message board trying to get his forums back up and running. I can't just call him. I wasn't expecting to get the model number so quickly either.(didn't know he was online, thought he was at work) I just was wondering if there may have been a common fix to these things. Had this been my own computer I would have detailed this to the maximum. (right down to the brand of cathodes hehe)

He's checking the PS now though.

Is there any chance the motherboard has one of those extra little P4 connectors and his power supply doesnt have that? or he doesnt have it hooked up?

Same problem

I got same problem!!!

bought all the bits:
AMD XP2400 retail w heatsink/fan
512mb DDR PC2100
PC Chips Syntax SKT A AGP Via KT266 DDR/SDRATA133 Sound/LAN/USB 2.0 Retail Box
Maxtor 6Y080P0 Plus 9 80Gb 7200rpm 8mb Cache ATA133 Hard Drive - OEM
Creative Radeon 9200SE 128MB Retail Box
JNC 4JA 140i Grey ATX Midi Tower Case 350 Watt with Front Panel USB
Sony 52x32x52x16 IDE Drive (COMBO) - OEM

Went together very well! Fired it up! Fans, hd and cd work, but there was no video signal, also i noticed there were no sounds/beeps coming from the case speaker.

I've checked all jumpers and connections and even tried another video card, still nothing! I did however notice that the power light was not working unless I pulled out one of the drive power connectors (Weird!)
Any idea's? I'm sure it's a faulty bit of hardware, but which bit?
