| Ok, what's goin' on here...
I made an earlier post about my computer randomly shutting down. Kranich replied saying that it may be heat related.
At first i just opened my laptop up, and blew some dust out, and it seemed to stop randomly shutting down.
Now, some of my programs are randomly crashing. Enemy territory has done it a few times and my mail program too.
But more importantly, I have been unable to determine my CPU temp. I have the latest BIOS version, and it does not have a reading for the temp. I do, however, have HDD temperature (just to see...) and it's saying it's at 104 degrees farenheit.
Now, does anyone think it may still be a heat problem? Or perhaps some HDD error. I plan on running scan disk in a minute.
Any help would be appreciated.

run scandisk... then go to run and type
sfc /scannow
you will need to have the disk w/ XP on it. This will check for files that may have been corrupted during all the heat realted crashes.
Follow it all up with a defrag. |

well one sort of "emperical" way to figure it out is.....does it do it when you first boot up or after its ran a while?
If it crashes after its hot and u then reboot does it crash pretty much right away?
I could think of other experiemnts, lol....like setting it in front of an air conditioner...or go outside on a colddddd nite and see what it does, lol.
Has it been modded any or overclocked?
Do you know the rpm of the hard drive?

Ok, I'll do the sfc now.
John, no, it doesn't crash right away after i reboot. Although, a few monthes ago, I would start it up, and then it would crash only once right after start up. That doesn't happen anymore.
No, my cpu is not overclocked, nor have I modded anything.
I believe my hdd is at 5400 rpm. |

I've done the scan disk, sfc, and the defrag.
I'll test some stuff out now. |

Do they have 7200 rpm slim hdd's yet for lappys. I didnt think they did. So 5400 rpm would be fastest you can go.
