Hey i have a huge problem right now..and i REALLY REALLY need help!!!
First of all, let me tell you my problem: my brother. He is THE most annoying asswipe in the world...and he did the gayest thing 2 days ago...!
Ok, he plays counter-strike (like me) and he thought it would be fun to try out !hacks! on MY computer! and so he opened up everything and screwed my comp up real bad...anyways, i got mad at him and slapped him around a bit, but my system was pretty much dead, i think he opened up a virus or something...
So, i go and install a fresh new OS, set up my drivers, then my internet, and then comes the problem, Direct X.
I've downloaded DirectX maybe 15 times and installed it, and restarted my computer, etc. etc. but EVERYTIME i install it, XP doesnt seem to know its there...i checked System\system32, and a DirectX folder is in there which, i think, is supposed to be. But whenever i go to play CS, its really really choppy and im pretty sure its cuz i dont have DirectX, another way i know its cuz of DirectX is because whenever i go and try to open up a anime, it says "Error Downloading Codec" which is because of DirectX...now wtf is wrong with this? ive reinstalled XP 3 times, and tried it, but still the same thing...please someone help!!!!!! i really really need some answers!!.
Thanks, and oh yea, i download "DirectX 9.0b End-User Runtime"
from microsoft.com, and im PRETTY SURE thats the right one..will somebody please help??? im bored to death!!
Thanks for any answers by the way~
Oh yeah! forgot one thing, after i reinstalled XP, i reformatted my drives (except my anime), but the wierd thing is the drive that i put all my games wont reformat by itself..its really wierd it keeps saying some program is using that drive, even when i close EVERY program and process...arg....well ya, i think thats it.
CRAP forgot one more thing, my system specs:
AMD Athlon 64 FX-51 Processor
Radeon 9700 Pro Graphics Card
Audigy 2 ZS Sound Card
ASUS Sk8n Mobo
1 ghz of 400mhz RAM
yea, thats all u need to know, i think, if u need anything else, just ask.

How did you ensure you eradicated the viral infection? You mentioned installing a "fresh OS"... but did you do a clean reinstall of everything after making sure your HD was clean (zero-write, repartition, reformat)?

i said i reformatted, but it was wierd that one drive (the drive i put my games on) couldn't reformat...other than that, i reformatted my programs and my other drives except for anime..which im pretty sure has nothing to do with it cuz all it has are like..anime
and oh yea, how do i zero-write and repartition? |

You should be able to D/L a HD utility form your HD manufacturer's website. It will create a bootable floppy and/or bootable CD. Which ever you use, make that the first boot device, and just follow the utility's prompts to zero-write (the only way to make certain that you've killed all infection (some virii can survive a simple re-format, but none can survive a zero-write).
You can use your HD manufacturer's utilities to then prepare the drive (partition it), or D/L W98se bootdisk from www.bootdisk.com, create a bootable floppy, boot with it and use FDISK to create the partition(s). Alternatively, if you are installing XP, you should be able to boot with the XP install CD, and it will partition and format your drive during the installation.
You may want to zero write all your drives and start completely over from scratch, given your games drive is acting funky too. |
