Error 1920 when installing Diskeeper
-------------------------------------
There are a few main causes for this 1920 error.
1.The first is the Event Log service is not set to Automatic.
2.The second is that the Diskeeper service is already installed, but disabled.
3.The third is that the system is not recognizing a long path name when it tries to start the Diskeeper service.
4.The fourth is that there is another service which is not permitting Diskeeper to function.
1. Check the Event Log service to make certain it is set to Automatic.
in Windows 2000 & Windows XP, check the following:
1. From the Start menu, Select Settings, Control Panel, Administrative Tools and Services.
2. Search the services list for Event Log and double click that service.
3. If the service is set to automatic, move on to the next section,
4. If it is not set to Automatic, from the Startup type: pull down menu, select Automatic
5. Select OK
6. Reboot the system
2. If the Event Log service is set to automatic and the issue persists, do the following:
A. Go to Control Panel, Services, look to see if the Diskeeper service is listed. If it is, check to see if it says it is disabled. If it is disabled do the following;
Aa. Run REGEDT32
Ab. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Diskeeper.
Ac. Delete the Diskeeper key.
Ad. Reboot your computer and retry the Diskeeper installation.
Ae. Diskeeper should now run normally.
B. If the Diskeeper service is not listed under Control Panel, Services, run the Diskeeper installation again.
C. When the error message, 1920, “Cannot start the Diskeeper service” comes up, without closing the error box...
D. Go to Control Panel, Services, highlight the Diskeeper service and hit Start.
E. When the error comes up:
Ea. Run REGEDT32
Eb. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Diskeeper.
Ec. Double-click on ImagePath. Add double quotes (") at the beginning and end of the install path.
Ed. Still without closing the 1920 error box, go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services, highlight the Diskeeper service and Start it.
3. If you get an error, cancel the installation and retry it, using an 8dot3 folder path. The path suggested to use here is c:\Program Files\Execsoft\Diskeep Please bear in mind that with downloaded installations, there are 2 different sections to input a path into. You will need to use the path above in both of these parts of the install.
4. If all of this fails, there is often another service involved that can affect Diskeeper’s communication. Often this has been the result of Symantec or McAfee. If you are running either of these software on your machine, it’s suggested that you remove either of those programs, reinstall Diskeeper and then reinstall that program. This often will resolve the issue. Please note: As with anything, ensure that you have a way to reinstall a program prior to removing it.
