HTML is not hard at all.
You might consider getting a WYSIWYG editor so you can do what you want, and then look at the code to see how it's working. HTML-Kit is what I started with. W3Schools offers HTML plus many more tutorials. All FREE.

It's easy, I started learning it when I was in 7th grade and I know a ton of stuff by the end of 8th grade. I read some HTML for dummie books and I also got source code from other websites and played around with that. It's the easiest (and only) computer language I have learned. When i was in 9th grade I took WebMastering I and now this year 11th I'm planning on taking WebMastering II so I can learn some advanced HTML, DHTML, and Javascript.
edit- 1000th POST!!!!!!!!!!!! |

It's easy. There I said it.
Just keep in mind that when you start making your website(s), that it would be a nice idea to redirect those with IE browsers. to www.msn.com, and all others to your index.html. |

ie ::shakes head:: i remember those days lol. nah...html is fairly easy to learn....i started about a week ago and i can make my own pages using only code...they may not be the prettiest..but you'd never know i started a week ago if you looked at them...... i haven't tried the other links here (i'm going to tomorrow) but i learned on http://www.htmlcodetutorial.com/ just do their basic learning one..for the real beginners and it'll talk you through thier basics...the rest of the page is very non-linear meaning you can chose to learn about whatever you want....that sux in my oppinion because they refer to stuff i don't know yet and i just have no idea where to go after the tutorial....but the basic tutorial is awsome imo |

lol...well all part of learnign proper HTML is cross-browser support so no better time than now to learn that IE will accept some SLOPPY code and it will alot of the times render things incorrectly. Oh the joys of Microsoft.
HTML is best learned by doing. Just start coding a site and at the same time supplement it with a book you find useful. Once you actually use the things you read about in the books it will become more a second nature
Notepad is a good one but I prefer either Dreamweaver or Homesite from Macromedia to develope sites. they have a good WYSIWYG option along with good code highlighting and all that jazz
