| Logging file hits in remote storage...
I store a variety of files in my comcast account which I share via links to various friends. I also use the storage to host images and the like for use here at techimo.
I upload the files to http://home.comcast.net/~gomer_p/*****.*** via FTP. Is there a way I can track the number of hits these files receive? I don't need anything any fancier than that really. |

are you talking about hits on images? or hits on a web page that people visit in a browser.
If your webhost has php installed, you could just make a simple php server include that adds "+1"on each hit, to a text file on your webserver.
As far as hits to specific image files I dont really know =(
If you want more details just PM me

Good info... there may be hope after all... http://awstats.sourceforge.net/docs/...faq.html#NOLOG Quote:
FAQ-COM025 : HOW TO USE AWSTATS WITH NO SERVER LOG FILE
PROBLEM:
I want to have AWStats statistics but i have no access to my server log file.
SOLUTION:
Because AWStats is a log analyzer, if you don't have any way to read your server log file, you have nothing to analyze and you should not be able to use AWStats. However, this is a trick that you can use to have a log file be build. You must add a tag to call a CGI script like pslogger into each of your web pages. This will allow you to have an artificial log file that can be analyzed by AWStats.
You can find a Perl version of CGI pslogger enhanced by AWStats author here or a php version of CGI pslogger made by Florent CHANTRET here.
| Ok... All that above is greek to me. I think I could make a generic index.html to link people to, that would list the files available. I know enough basic HTM editing to make something that simple. Now when they click the links listed in the index.html file, I need this CGI script jobber to do its magic so that AWSTATS can do its thing.
Is this a simple matter? What is involved? If it is easy for someone... could they make a sample index file?
Like I said, GREEK. |

I doubt you have cgi/execute access.
You have no real options with this kind of hosting. |
