I’ve met a person who is possible interested in hiring me to do some web page development using PHP and MySQL (fairly easy stuff), and I am curious as to what I should ask for as an hourly rate. My experience is somewhat limited. I took a couple C++ courses at a local university and did very well in them. Then this summer I taught myself PHP and MySQL by creating a fairly complex database driven site for my family’s photos. I feel pretty confident I can effectively code most anything asked of me in PHP.
A friend of mine who has some experience in the field said about $15-$20 an hour would be reasonable. Does that sound about right?
Any ideas? |

hmmm if your an expert in this field might aswell have it in contractual mode that hourly mode like for example 6000 USD for all designs and developments but if you really want an hourly rate i would suggest 14$ per hour of 15 but maybe first offer 20$ then if the company ask you if you can narrow it down try 18$ then if ask again to narrow it down maybe 17$ but don;t go lower than 15 or 14 bucks, that job is going to be a hell of a headache if u ask me.
what kind of project do you think he will give u? ecommerce?

i second filipino, charge them in contractual mode.
what kind of job are you looking at doing?
I generally charge $30+ for hourly work. Then again, most things I do are contracted, the hourly stuff is maintaince.

I've experienced buying webdesign, usually some set a price for the design itself then a price for the coding, coding is always more then the design.

hey, a dollar a character, or better yet a key press.
When I do those types of jobs, i set a base, like say 50-100 then ask for about 10 each hour after that, that way even if you do it really fast, you don't get swindled out of your money.
