I not a web master of even a progarmer as a matter of fact. But I try to stay up on the cutting edge of whats hot and was ... well you know the rest.
I did some reading on what CFM was, but all I got out of it is that it uses a bunch of tags that are located seperate from the application server. And it seems kinda like asf. Would I be wrong saying that. |

nope CFM (Coldfusion) is more like PHP. ASP much hard to work on cause you need an html file then asp file unlike php and CFM they can come within html code.
Correct me if i am wrong |

I'm a CF programmer and it's definitely breathed it's last breath. Macromedia tried to save it when they bought Allaire but there's little demand for it, basically because of price. CF Server costs $5k+ while PHP and ASP are free.
CF is unlike any other dynamic web language. It is tag based like HTML is. ASP, PHP, JSP are scripting languages. CF is extremely easy to learn and you can program with it faster than any other language available. What you can do in ASP with 15 lines, you can do in CF with 4. Again, the only negative against it is the price tag.
If you want to keep up with cutting edge stuff... go with PHP, Java or .NET.

of google
Self-referentially short for PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor, an open source, server-side, HTML embedded scripting language used to create dynamic Web pages. In an HTML document, PHP script (similar syntax to that of Perl or C ) is enclosed within special PHP tags. Because PHP is embedded within tags, the author can jump between HTML and PHP (similar to ASP and Cold Fusion) instead of having to rely on heavy amounts of code to output HTML. And, because PHP is executed on the server, the client cannot view the PHP code. PHP can perform any task that any CGI program can do, but its strength lies in its compatibility with many types of databases. Also, PHP can talk across networks using IMAP, SNMP, NNTP, POP3, or HTTP. PHP was created sometime in 1994 by Rasmus Lerdorf. During mid 1997, PHP development entered the hands of other contributors. Two of them, Zeev Suraski and Andi Gutmans, rewrote the parser from scratch to create PHP version 3 (PHP3). |
