In that case your should be able to put a test.php file in your /var/www/htdocs dir and access it via http://localhost/test.php |

ok around line 788 i found
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php and uncommented it and the rest of the php3 and php4 addtypes
and it still says it doesnt know how to read it |

You should find the same line in mod_php.conf file which suggests that this is not necessary. |

what a twisted little puzzle this is. i hate to leave this but i have class in about 5 hours and in some desperate need of sleep. thanks for all your help though. i will definitely post if i find anything new. |

You may need to change a line from
Options FollowSymLinks MultiViews
to
Options FollowSymLinks MultiViews ExecCGI
in the <Directory "/var/www/htdocs"> section. |

hmmm, might need to see the error lines for the specific php file you are trying to open. |

That is my error. Im assuming the file is in the right place (/var/www/ folder which is the DocumentRoot as stated in httpd.conf) and that it is just the apache server, although the php commands are all uncommented in the httpd.conf file. Could it be something in php.ini (is that the php config file?) or should i direct my efforts solely at apache

Nah, this almost looks like mozilla is acting silly. Try Galeon or Konqueror or Netscape instead. Even try links or lynx at the command line. |
