| Grrr cannot get .htaccess to work
I have done this before, but not today! Nope. Brain dead. I am doing something stupid.
FTP'ed in ASCII
Set permissions to 755 globally
Path to perl interpreter okay
Path to home directory according to webhost, but here's where I am blind a little.
When run, get "bad config" when try to run it.
Looking for some things to check, any ideas? Thanks! |

Why not post the contents of the .htaccess and what you are trying to do with it?

The script itself is okay, I have used it before, it's just the config for different host, directory, etc. that is the problem. I prob will try some support from the web host, but that won't be until Monday. |

Well, you really aren't giving us much to work on. You have already covered the obvious things like paths. |

Yes, trying to password protect a directory. I am wondering if there is something wrong at the server end, so am going to throw it their way. |

99.99999% of the time, the problem is in the .htaccess, like you said a bad path or similar. I would be utterly amazed if it was a server problem.
Are you 110% certain that your paths and permissions are correct?
Also, you really should use binary mode when FTPing to a *nix server to avoid corrupt files. |

you need to specify directory on your .htaccess, open up your .htaccess file u sing notepad then you will see something like this
AuthName "private"
AuthType Basic
AuthUserFile /usr/local/apache/htdocs/yourdomain.com/directorynameyouwanttoputpassword/pwp-users
require valid-user

Why don't you post it? More eyes on it, not like there is anything secret in there. |
