Important phpBB2 news!

If you are running a version prior to 2.13 update NOW> this is a must. They have had issues with 2.10> being hacked and spammed by bots. The new version allow better IP blocking and tracking. It offers number verification to stop spam bots. Lots of needed updates including holes in the code that were being exploited. Think you are up to date? You maybe wrong, I was. If your server pre-configured or uses "power tools". Check the forum version with phpbb tools. Mine said 2.10 (was power tools install) BUT that was the db. The server co just ran the update script, but didn't do any of the software coding that needed done! I was really 2.05 going by common.php files coding. SO-watch yourself if you use this board software. Get up to date and you will be safe. Take it from me don't want till some spammers hack you. I couldn't even delete their accounts! When Id go to delete spammers account -it would replace their name with my admin name hence deleting MY admin account. Just thought Id give a heads-up on this issue. get updates or questions concerning this answered here

Well I look it at like this. phpBB is like the best freeware out there for forums IMO>but you cant be affraid of /php code or sql. vB is the best "pay for" forum software. You get the support in vB from a great group. But you have to buy the skins (which is why I didnt buy it). I might be buying photopost soon though. Same scene. You have the best free stuff-coppermine. Then you have the best pay-photopost. It kinda like pay for linux vs free linux distro's. Know what I mean. But Im a huge OS supporter so phpBB is what I prefer to use. And coppermine (for now). I just setup a zen-cart and OScommerce for two -customers. Im having a blast with this stuff! Its just plain fun!

Amen If you like phpBB and osCommerce, you should look into Mambo; it's a pretty powerful OS CMS. I think Typo3 is still better but Mambo is easier to learn and can be customized to do almost as much as T3. You might also want to look into phpGroupWare if you have multiple people working on a project. Some good stuff.
