ok...most of you know about my website at http://kevinscorner.meta-cortechs.com but i have a questions about links. Because of the way the domain name is set up, it uses frames..that link links a page that is one big frame...and my page is loaded into that frame. Problem is, that frame does not close when you click a link (so you go to microsoft.com but up top it still says http://kevinscorner.meta-cortechs.com). When you go to install the activex for microsoft anti-spyware beta for example it has to refresh the page and when it does so, it goes all the way back to my page rather than just back one page like it's supposed to. To get around that, I've made the link as below and just opened a new windows Code: <A HREF="www.microsoft.com" target="blank">Microsoft Anti-Spyware Beta</A> That just opens a new windows. I want it to open in the same windows but close the damn frames....all I can think is making a page for my program that i link to instead of the programs actual page and put in the code necessesary to close the frames and have that automatically forward you to the programs website. is there any easy target command that will close the frames yet open it in the same window? Thanks! |

Glad you figured it out. One definitely must pay close attention to those pesky target commands.
_blank renders the link in a new, unnamed window
_self renders the link in the current frame
_parent renders the link in the immediate frameset parent
_top renders the link in the full, unframed window

ok... so my site is http://kevinscorner.meta-cortechs.com . Right now the links are all set up with target="_top" which makes it load in the same windows. should i have all my links like that or do you think I should set them up with target="blank" which opens a new window? |

if you set it to open in a new window, then remember that some popup blockers will stop that from working, and less technically minded people will just see it as a broken link.
the site has changed a lot from when i last visited. and it doesn't look like it is hosted on isp freespace any more

it's on my own server I thought of that, but when I use the site i typically want to go to 3 or 4 different programs when I'm working on a computer..it's a pain in the butt for me that I have to keep reopening the page now instead of having everything just open in it's own windows. I figured I'd ask for other opinions.
