| Hiding my media source?
Hi,
I have an embedded WMV that plays on my site when you visit it. Now, if you right-click on the media player and look at the properties, you can see the source of my video file.
So, I figured I'd disable the right-click button on my site, but then I realized that if you just goto 'View-->Source' you can just see the code and the video file there, too.
So, what I need to know is: How can I protect my media, and prevent people from seeing where the media is linking from?
Thanks guys.

embed it in java or something similar so that when you look at the source you will see the java file, but not a link to your video file? i am not sure how easy this is, but i have seen similar things done before.... |

You'll need to embed with flash or something similar. If you do it with java, I can still find the file name and then use the address of the page replacing the html part of the address with the audio file name.
Cheers! |

| Although it is a step better, the URL to the media can still be ascertained.
Personally, I think using PHP would be the best way to do this. If your server supports PHP or you're just interested in how it would work, let me know and I'll whip up a scrip when I get the chance.

I've yet to see a way of hiding the url to a media file that couldn't be figured out. |

Why would you want to hide the source? Just have your host turn off hot-linking, and you’d be set.
There are easy ways to do that yourself, as well. PHP would be your best option.
Or stream it.

The truth is if someone wants your media bad enough, they will have it. There is always a way around it. But you can DETER people from doing so by using some of these methods. The most secure way is masking URLs and such through PHP like nostril has suggested.
large_nostril if you can whip up a script that would be good, I'd like to see one other than the one I've been using for media downloads on my site. Thanks
