PHP and SQL

I am interested in developing a inventory database for my work to keep track of all the equipment we have in the field and in stock. I would like something that has a web interface so that it can be accessed anywhere on the network at any given time.

I was reading around and a it seems like PHP and SQL migrated together would be the best solution. I have no experience in either so im wondering how difficult of a task is this that im looking to create?

If you feel this is a big step to take for someone novice does anyone else have a solution for my needs? I dont feel like paying for software if this is something i can create on my own.

I found this site http://us3.php.net/tut.php and was also wondering whats some good PHP tutorial sites. I learn best by seeing example after example to get an understanding on what im doing. Thanks!

That's the best place to start right there, the PHP.net page. If you know HTML and some basic SQL syntax, what you want to do isn't all too hard to do. I'm no PHP expert by far though.

I've used that page a little. Kindof messy if you ask me but some good tutorials.

I would check over at sourceforge first. No need to reinvent the wheel if someone has already done it.

This looks extremely promising! http://phpmyinventory.sourceforge.net/ - I might end up using this at school as well.
