Need a BBS package with the ablity to charge for a posting?
Hello,
Does anyone know of any BBS packages out there that allow the admin to charge users to post in certain sections of the forum? It would be nice if it was all set to use like PayPal etc.
Thanks
Tony

I do not know of anything, but I would say get a BB and protect it with .htaccess files. Have an area on your site where users can register. After they do that just give them a logon name and password and they're on their way.

Actualy, I need it so that the users will only be changed when they post a new topic. This is for a site that will conceptualy allow users to sell thier items at a small fee. I woulf like to be able to automaticaly and simple charge them via paypal the small fee when they post thier item for sale.
Any clue of osmehting already built??

Perhaps take a look through the forums at www.ikonboard.com . Seems I remember a similar request one time, not sure if it was UBB or Ikon that had a hack available.

why would you want people to pay money to use the board? is it a tech support board?

Well, in my personal opinion, it's difficult to get people to pay cash to access a forum and use it. Chances are, the site may never take off. My suggestion would be to just open it free to the public so you can get enough members to get the site really active. This way, they'll get a taste of what this sites all about and when the time is right, just give them a notice that you'll be turning the site into a pay site in next couple weeks or so... Most likely, you'll lose some members after this site makes its changes to a pay site. However, people who feel that this site was benficial to them will agree to pay for the services rendered... just IMHO...

NDC do you mean like when coke dealers give you a sample then when yer hooked they jack up the price? or do you mean when you download a shareware program and you KNOW that it will stop working or the price will be in effect after a certain amount of time?
i suggest the shareware style one.

I'm simply saying that majority of the people aren't willing to pay money without knowing its contents first...

another idea.. give a test drive style account maybe allow 1 or 2 auctions.. if they like the service then they pay a nominal fee to continue usage... but then the trick is how to stop people from just reregistering to get another "test drive"

My plan...
My plan is simple. Charge per posting to sell your item. At first, the site will be free, once a certain number of items are sold per day, then I will start charging. It is kinda like waiting for a certain critical mass to be reached. I dont plan on charging much but i still cant find a BBS system that will allow for this. At first, the only charging will be done via PayPal to keep it simple.

There is a vintage Diaclone Grimlock in the original box on eBay. Diaclone, as in before Transformers G1. Start is $429.
