Hey,
I'm getting a static IP from my local ISP. If I do this, can I host a website from my house?

You will need to check the TOS aggreement with the ISP
Some ISPs blocked port 80 so you cant host your own site. Alot of ISP give you webpage space to host webpages |

So, if they didn't block port 80, which is the HTTP port i believe, then i could? What software would I need? Would I need windows 2k3?
Oh yeah, I have a domain name that I use to have which is still own, can I register it with that IP address? |

if they allow you to host your own webpage you can get IIS or apache to host the website on a box.
You dont need a high end server for a small webpage |

Yes thats correct, but you can also set up an FTP or website with a dynamic ip address by using something like this http://www.dyndns.com/ |

That looks pretty cool, i might try that out, depending on how the whole static IP turns out for me. I heard apache was pretty good, i think i will try that |

New Question People, if I wanted to make my ip address hook up with a domain name that I own already, how do I do that? I have to register somebody? |
