Starting a Web Page w/ GoDaddy

Hey guys, I'm starting a webpage in which I have already purchased the Domain and written the site.

This is the first time I've attempted something like that so I'm taking the cautious approach. I purchased the domain through GoDaddy but haven't purchased a hosting plan. The problem I'm facing is: How do I upload my index file (and subsequent files) to the domain? I can't host the site myself because I do not have a constant Internet connection so I'm looking into buying a hosting plan

GoDaddy.com offers something called "website tonight". Has anyone used this before? Or has anyone used GoDaddy to purchase a domain but still was able to upload their own personal web page?

Don't use website tonight. Just get their basic hosting package. Once it is setup and your domain registered on their domain servers you can FTP your files over.

Well that sounds simplee enough but even so, how do I do that? I've tried going to FTP://<IP Address> but it times out, also doesn't work if I go to ftp://<domain name>.

Because this is my first time, let me ask the almost obvious question:

Do I need to purchase a hosting plan from a company, and then I'll have the ability to FTP to it?

It sounds dumb, but bear w/ me.

yeah, you'll need webspace before you can use ftp. and that is what hosting companies do for you; provide webspace.

So: Buy the space, then FTP all my web page files to the site and make sure the main page is titled "index.html"?

yes. usually it can be index.htm, index.php, but any of those will do. you also have to log into go daddy and enter in the DNS servers for your host, once you get one.
