JAVA help?

I am currently taking a JAVA class at school, and would like some help. Is there anyone out there who knows JAVA 5.0?

I have no clue right now how to use the BufferedReader . . . . and I need to input a number thats about 4-5 sig figs. . . . . would a double or a float variable be better?

depends on the number...probably float i think. (i've only had three days of class but i'm recalling from other languages that i've read up on...lol. i think you'd need float)

Looking at it . . . double supports up to 15 sig figs, and float seven. would using float be better? I am still going to truncate the output to 3 decimal places, so . . . . im confused. But thanks goodness for the scanner class! it saved my butt! But i still wan to learn buffered reader.
