Wy is my site so slow?
Can someone please help figure out why my website takes so long to load?
I've got the file size down to about 20k but it still takes forever.
Not only that but, sometime a few slices will "time out" while loading and the rollover buttons are EXTREMELY sluggish...
Also, after the page loads, it still says it's transfering data in the status bar...
I'm lost as to why this is happening.
I thank you for your help and advice...

3GB of transfer?
Is that enough, ya think?
So far, my entire site weighs in at 665kb.
I'm not going to have alot of traffic (if any, really) but I shouldn't run out of bandwidth, right?
(sorry, I'm still kinda new to this)...

3GB should be more than enough as long as you arent trying to hosting popular downloads

I don't think it's helping by having your site broken up into so many small image files.

I was under the impression that the more slices I made the faster it would load. I guess that's not the case OuTpaTient?
I put the site on a different host. How's it look now?

Both of my sites ( http://0utpatient.com & http://oeyec.com ) are similar to yours in the fact they consist of tables of smaller images to make up the page. I also used Photoshop / ImageReady to build them. Initially I had far too many small images, as you did, and found that it often slowed loading time plus for whatever reason not all the images would always load. After reducing the number of images used to make the page to around 20 or less small images then those problems all but went away. (As fate would have it, my ISP, Comcast, seems to be extremely slow tonight which is unusual. When things are running at normal speed then I find my pages load quick enough, usually around 3 to 5 seconds for most broadband connections.)

Thanx for the info, OuTpaTient.
One last thing...
Do you have any idea as to why, AFTER the page loads, that the status bar at the bottom of the browser still says it's transferring?
-
October 2nd, 2005, 11:18 PM #15That is something I've always meant to figure out, but it's just never been very high on my priority list. It is something I too would like to correct if possible.

Nawww, it does it in my IE browser.
Maybe we are running different versions.
Oh well, as long as it doesn't start munching on my bandwidth.
