I am completely fed up with microsoft vc++. You have to add so much completely worthless nonsense to your programs for them to compile correctly, and then half the time, you get completely bogus compile time errors.
So as soon as I can a new c++ compiler its off my system. Anyone have any suggestions?? Did someone not mention a VI editor for windows sometime a while ago in here? How is that? Borland? Anything else?? Thanks guys.

Not really, your program just added to the many things I have learned to hate about microsoft. I am sick of wasting my time trying to figure out how "they" want you to do things.

Gcc is always nice if you run linux.....
I have used Borland, the windows version, on windows 3.1, and also the DOS based version, which supports graphics, the windows 3.1 does not. Those are pay to use compilers. From my experience they were a TON better then Micro$oft could ever make, the debugger, along with teh other features made it great for debugging or troubleshooting. Borland does have a free command line compiler you can dl from their site, but it does not have the same bells and whistles the pay ones do. |

I have always loved Borland's C++ Builder but used VC++ at work so I know it just as well.
Bordlands is better....

Well don't forget vi isn't a compiler, its simply an editor
Well given that krohnjw said you could get a free compiler from borland, you could use vi to edit and borland to compile

If you want editor, use visal slick edit.....it's really nice
as for compiler,
I use Borland C++(good compiler) for console progs
I use C++ Builder (I hate this one) for creating GUIs |

I vote for:
vim for an editor
gcc for the compilier
gdb with DDD for debugging
These are all linux/UNIX tools.
I know vim and gcc run under win32, but thay are much nicer under linux. I think gdb is under windows using cygwin.
