| Total Newb using Dreamweaver
Whoes me, this is taking far too long to learn. Me thinks I may be retarded...again.
I'm having the hardest time getting to know Dreamweaver (now using 8). I have the Dreamweaver for Dummies, and man is it dumbed up. First three chapters taught me how to do one thing I didn't know how to do...a couple of specifics for syncrhonizing my site with my program. But now that's not working anyway, and I find myself manually synchronizing with FileZilla for better reliability as for some reason now when I upload I get this insane error where the program tries to create infinite subdirectories with my resume folder on my site. I know it's a setting in my site setup...I would try to figure it out if manual uploading weren't so easy anyway.
Anywho, I sure do wish they made books as useful as class coursework, you know those sheets the instructor gives you that has like 10 or so things to do in a simple ordered and summarized breakdown.
Anyone have some usefull advice on a great book or other learning materials?
If you're curious, I'm currently working on www.SiliconJon.com (currently nothing more than a resume depository) and HouseOfWarez.com. And no, HouseOfWarez is NOT an illegal data site, though it will have tons of free data & related links, but all %100 legal. I was going to make it a trader site...but I'm a bit concerned about such a venture at the moment being so green.

If you have Photoshop, making the menu bars is pretty easy. Just design the bar itself with text and whatnot, then use the slice tool to cut a rectangle (or whatever) for each button, then Save For Web. That will give you an HTML file that you can start editing, with all the pictures placed into one.
I'll try and dig up the thread I created some time ago about it. |
