Just wanted to know what kind of knowledge base we have here? How many years have you been programming in C/C++? Also, what was your initial compiler/IDE? It's always fun for me to reflect on the good 'ole days. So, click the number of years and reply with the compiler! Thanks!

None, really. Messed a little with it. Just use Java and VB

Parts of my resume.
Computer Science Degree 97
Work exp..
Developed a WinNT, distributed, scalable and fault tolerant, online transaction processing (OLTP) system for guaranteed, real-time message processing. A multithreaded object-orientated client handles incoming messages from a multitude of devices, via TCP/IP sockets, and passes them to distributed Tuxedo services that decrypt, parse, authenticate, process, encrypt and reply to the transaction in under 250ms. Extensive work with distributed client/server middleware, socket/network communication and relational databases. Over two million production transactions processed.
Orchestrated, as technical lead, a major system integration project meshing outside services with current OLTP system.
Database architect team member specializing in design for data warehouse and high performance/high read/write systems.
Created system archiving methodology and processes to minimize active data and maximize transaction processing.
Designed and developed software for Unix, ported to NT, to reliably relay messages between field deployed proprietary devices (serial port communication) and online transaction processing system (LAN/WAN socket communication).
Investigated multiple OCR engines, various image enhancement routines and integrated best match into OLTP system.
Assisted in designing a secure and redundant network to support OLTP system. Provided technical information for firewall/security enhancements, NAT/PAT translations, Private Addressing scheme, VPN solutions, high availability switched network design and WAN solutions.
Undertook responsibility for company patents in submission, addressing patent office action requests, submission of new patents for U.S. and International filings. Analyzed competitor patents and products in relation to possible infringement and possible strategic partnerships. Researched VC portfolios for best strategic fit to acquire investment funding.
Extensive knowledge on various biometrics and fraud prevention systems.
Developed Win95, C++ mapping software for man-portable, RF scanning system. Smooth scrolling map with location data from GPS. Ability to plot lines of bearing and probable location ellipses from direction finding data for RF signals. Ability to allow users to store and display active, geo-fixed, Mil-spec 2525 symbols and data.
Developed Win95 real-time, device driver (VxD) for propitiatory RF scanning, ISA card.
Enhanced configuration management system's Bourne Shell scripts. Assisted in product evaluation and conversion for company wide release.
Technical knowledge in Signal Processing and low level hardware/software interfaces.
Languages
C/C++, Delphi, SQL, Assembler, UNIX Shell Scripts (Bourne, C), Ada, Fortran, Pascal, HTML, Java/JavaScript
Software/Systems
DB2 UDB, Socket (TCP/IP) and Com Port (RS-232) Communication, OCR Engines (DevKit 2000, Abbyy), Win95/98, WinNT 4.0, Delphi, ODBC, CLI, Tuxedo, Biometrics, Encryption/Security/Firewall/VPN, C++ Builder, UNIX (SunOS, Solaris, Linux)
Almost all of this was C and C++

What's a "knowledge pull"? Is that anything like a truck pull? |

haven't used it in industry yet unfortunatly, but have 1-2 yrs thru college. Started with Borland C++ then later moved to Visual Studio. All this was console apps, no VC++, I'm just starting to learn that on my own now! Fun stuff though!
cheers! |

I'm in college, and haven't programmed for a company yet. I would say 3-4 years of C/C++ programming experience for me (college years), and I haven't done anything major (yet )
I have made a few "toy" applications, and that is about it.
Turbo C++ for DOS and Windows3.0/3.1 by Borland is what I used mostly.
What really aggrivated me (until I figured it out) was why, once you get something working perfectly under one compiler, that it WILL NOT even compile under another,.....or that it produces VERY BAD machine code that doesn't work under one machine, and GOOD, working code on another.
I have toyed with MASM (macro assembler), and TASM (turbo assembler),.....merely toyed.
I haven't made any MAJOR applications yet (what I would consider major).
