| Web Host Recommendations...
Hey, I am in the market to change my web host cuz I think I am getting ripped off, but hey, that's life...anyways, I am currently using the Gold 1 package for $30 per month through www.imhosted.com and it's great service, but I think it's over-priced. What do ya'll think about www.1and1.com as a web host? I have been looking at their website quite a bit and it seems that they offer sooooo much more than my web host at a lower price. Let me know any suggestions, recommendations, or feedback ya'll may have. By the way, what I am looking for is as much storage space and bandwidth as possible at a low price. Also, 99.5% uptime or higher and quick speeds. Thanks.

I saw a really good deal on webhosting for a year somewhere for about $10 IIRC and came with a lot of features. I don't remember where it was and I am on the Vista beta now so I can't check my bookmarks on XP ATM. But if you want, search at www.resellerratings.com for the deal. Thats where I found it.
1&1 looks pretty good(thats who I was going to get hosting from before, but I found the other site, and I am waiting for my credit card to come in(just turned 18 a few weeks ago)), but if you find the deal, you can't beat $10 for the year. |

Been using 1&1 for almost 3 years now. If you need 100% uptime I wouldn't recommend it, ive noticed a dozen times or so where its been down for an hour or more (I assume server upgrades). But over 3 years thats really not too bad.
I use SSH all the time and it works quite fast.
With shared hosting you can't edit the httpd.conf file, you need a dedicated box for that. ".htaccess" files work, but some directives like <Directory> don't seem to work for me.
You get alot for the money, and their control panel is very easy and intuitive to use (much better than the "CPanel" that many webhosts use IMO).
No major problems. Support isn't exactly the fastest, but I've only ever really had one problem, and that was a billing issue, not a technical issue.

EX - did you get 1and1? Like 'em?
Any other recommendations? Looking for a new hosting package that includes user interface design options or templates. Thanks. |

Thanks, EX, and VHockey, too. They seem to have a pretty decent package; their sitebuilder seems straightforward. Need to check that certain configs/options (.htaccess, for one) can be accessed and will get more info on that today. 90 days money-back is a big plus, too. |

I got 1and1 about two weeks ago. In that time, my site was down for about 2-3hrs...kind of a bad impression. At first it was a little sluggish. During the down time they may have been upgrading something because afterwards, it seems to be much faster.
As for the control panel being better than cPanel...well, I'm kinda partial to fantastico because I'm lazy. Yet, their control panel is still pretty nice.
Some of their customer service people are kinda flakey but you can just call back till you get someone good.
Overall, I'm satisfied with them as a host.
