| Alternative to Iframe in Ebay to 'embed' another page?
I have a tonne of html files on a website for my business, each one with a full menu bar, specific item information and linked to a CSS file. I want to essentially get that into my Ebay listings, where my listing will contain as little as possible except for a link to that html file, so that I can change styles, update quickly via FTP and so on.
My first thought was just to stick an Iframe in, 'containing' the target page ... but apparently Ebay won't allow that. Is there another way I can put minimal specific descriptive info into Ebay (apart from the title, price and P&P, of course) and have it mostly located on my webspace?
I know I could make a template with loads of pictures linked from my space, but I wondered if something quicker was possible seeing as I already have these files exactly how I want them to look.
Thanks for you help!

Probably the closest you could get would be to replicate all the info in a flash element. Embedding externally-hosted flash files in listings is do-able. Iframes aren't allowed - and for the most part, they do this with good reason. What would stop you from embedding an iFrame that describes a bleeding edge liquid cooled gaming system, making the sale, then immediately changing your iFramed page to describe a 5-year-old piece o junk. Unless they took a screenshot, the customer would have no recourse or any way to prove what the listing originally said. Know what I mean?
Ebay won't let you change any part of the listing description if the item has sold, or if there's less than 12 hrs left on bidding (can add to, but not change). But an embedded flash element could encapsulate a lot of info in a small space, and be updated externally. We do this with our image galleries for dell servers. If we need to switch out an image, we do it in one spot, and don't have to edit hundreds of listings...
just my $0.02
(wow, just noticed how old this thread is! guess the first guy worked that out a looooooong time ago - lol) |
