PHP and IIS

is there something i need to set in IIS to get my PHP code to run correctly.. I installed php from php.org or wherever it was. I had IIS installed, but i changed the port to 8083 instead of just 80. Im just using notepad++ for my code, but when i save it with a .php extension and throw it in my wwwroot folder and browse to it, i get a dialog box asking me if i want to open or save it (in IE)... In Firefox it says the same, but it recommends using "CLI" to open it, but it still does nothing.

I know my IIS server is running on the local machine because i can target it with something like http://localhost:8083/ and get the default WIndows XP Pro page that says i have IIS running.. I then add the path for the file, and it doesnt want to load it, rather it asks me what it wants to do.

I asked a friend and he said that i should look for a config file since IIS was on there before PHP and since IIS doesnt recognize it, its probably something with my settings..

Anyone ever encounter this, or have any suggestions for getting my code to run (its just some simple echo stuff at this point)

PHP can be annoying to properly configure for IIS, but luckily it is not a too time consuming process. Walk through this tutorial and you should be up and running in a few minutes:

in looking at that tutorial, since i had some stuff in another directory and to eliminate another potential factor i uninstalled PHP 5.2 and im reinstalling it now, im asked in the setup what kind of web server i want to use, maybe last time i picked the wrong one, my choices for IIS are:

IIS 4+ ISAPI module
IIS 4+ CGI
and IIS/PWS 3

or i can choose stuff like do not setup a web server, apache stuff etc.. Which one should i pick? I dont rememeber what i chose last time, but i was probably wrong i have Windows XP pro and when i run the localhost and get my IIS screen it says on there somewhere Welcome to IIS 5.1, isnt that a newer version than what PHP has as options?

What should i choose in my install of PHP again so i can get this working better?

The IIS 4+ ISAPI install of PHP is generally considered "better" for IIS, but if you want to simply get PHP working, the IIS 4+ CGI install of PHP should be your best bet. As to version, note 4+, so 5.x would be covered.

If you want to attempt an automated installer setup, go for the CGI-based install. Otherwise, I doubt you will notice much difference for basic usage.

I would not reccomend IIS.

Use Apache.

And if this isn't going to be setup as anything more than a development server...
http://www.wampserver.com/en/index.php

1 simple install package, comes with Apache, PHP, MySQL, and phpMyAdmin.

Setting IIS6, PHP and MySql

Hello,
I got all 3 to work after hours of trial and error, here is an article so you can avoid the pain. http://www.atksolutions.com/articles...mysql_iis.html

Hope it helps,
Anthony

You're lucky I just didn't hit the 'SPAM' button. One post is fine to say you found/have a solution. DO NOT post it again.
