Gallery1 or Gallery2 which would you use

Im working on an interactive photo gallery for a site that ive been doing, ive been playing around for a few weeks or so with Gallery1 which is located here:

they also have a Gallery2 version out which uses MySQL as its backend (database) and Gallery1 doesnt require SQL, it just stores images in a folder you make. I have GoDaddy hosting so if i do decide to go with Gallery2 id have to just make a MySQL database and set the user stuff up.

I just wanted to know if anyone here has had experience with either one, i wanted to just use Gallery1 but now that i have it set up on my webspace the pictures arent loading correctly, i can log in and upload fine, when i type in a caption for the photo thats all that shows for the photo, no image, just text, and if i dont leave a caption then its blank. So im not sure exactly whats up here with Gallery1, but as for Gallery2, i just downloaded it to see on my local machine where i can run it since i have PHP and MySQL and i added a few photos and it looks great.. works fine, very glitzy and glamourous, which I may not want considering alot of our users will be on dialup (including myself, at home) Thats a nice thing about Gallery you can have it use something like NetPBM or ImageMagick (im using IM) and it can automatically resize and rotate images, etc.. fun stuff... There is also a huge difference in size of the folder Gallery1 is around 8mb unzipped whereas Gallery2 is over 50mb

Well the more i read about it, it seems that the themes are what start to slow down Gallery on a dialup connection, so im gonna stick with a basic theme and try Gallery2.

Now i downloaded the 17mb zp file and extracted it on my desktop then i used my FTP program (Core FTP Lite) to upload it to my site space. Anyway when it all gets in the queue its over 12,000 files and it take several(+) hours to upload them, i let it go before i went home from work last night and somewhere near 1/3rd of the way through it died, now it also takes forever to delete the directory from the FTP server.

Any way i can just upload the zip and have the server do the unzipping?

UPDATE: Well i figured out some of the questions... GoDaddy sucks at hosting so i cant do much with them through FTP, but I did find this to be quite helpful

i have one 23kb file that i upload via FTP and then it pulls what it needs
