I noticed that when I program ( well try to ) I can concentrate better if I have music playin through headphones.
I am a metal head thru and thru and enjoy listening to bands like Nuclear Assult, Disturbed, Static X, Slayer, and others like that.
When you are writing code do you listen to music? If so, which band?
The reason that I ask is cuse I was working on a Math.vbs script and got stuck. I followed links that Vass gave ( thanks ). I was still haveing problems. Put the head phones on and bingo I got past the hurdle that I was on.

I put on some Paul Oakenfold, the one from havana. I am not a big techno guy, but I like that one, plus it's over an hour long so it carries me through my work.

I prefer complete silence so I can talk my way through things. I'm always talking to myself when I'm programming

It depends... guess I'm moody
Sometimes I'll listen to more relaxing music (I can be a tense programmer! LOL).. or I'm a headbangin away
Regarding metal I'll listen to Pantera, Godsmack, Disturbed, Helmet, Clutch, tool, rammstein...
Sometimes it helps me go faster, and get the blood circulating
Also helps me concentrate because I can't hear everything going on around me (several other people in the same room where I work)
Glad to hear you're making progress!! |

curious question.
do ya actually think the music solved the problem??? regardless, a solution is a solution...
Having coded in environments as noisy as the NYSE and as quiet as a library, I prefer an open development environment/team concept jobber thingy. Where elegant solutions are often the result of brainstorming and collective thinking. This type of communications often precludes headphones, but iffin your in a straight code time vacuum....

Don't know if the music helped or not, but shortly after the background noise was cut out by the music, the problem got solved.
Guess everyone seen that I had headphones on and left me alone to figure it out.

When I am programming "Hello World" or "Hello Cody" or (what a change) "Goodbye!" I listen to... P!nk!
