Hi Folks:
I'm very new to the whole hosting thing and am needing to get a site up in about a 1-2 months and am just researching hosting sites.
1) Has anyone heard of or used Thinkhost? I was looking for an eco-friendly host, but I can't find many.
2) I also need to register a domain. I've seen some folks suggest to register with someone like godaddy, regardless of whatever hosting site I choose. Is there a ever a problem with registering and hosting with two different sites?
3) Also, why do people seem to change web hosts so much?
Thanks,

1) I've never heard of them, I'd google for reviews and come to your own conclusions, I'm not as eco friendly as I probably should be, might also look at some of the ones mentioned here Plethora of Options for Green Web Hosting : TreeHugger
2) There are no issues registering a domain elsewhere, its more of a safety precaution should there be a dispute with your hosting company. They can lock your domain and hold you hostage, if you have your domain registered elsewhere you have the option of moving hosts anytime, under any situation.
3) Obviously people change hosts for various reason, poor quality, better deals, more features ect.

I'm using HostMonster.com and cant be moree pleased with their service and feature set. They are affliilated with BlueHost.com as well and both sites offer rather similar packages. As far as eco-friendly hosts go.... hmm.... mass amounts of servers running in a data center.... environment go figure

ng | 1. Nope Never heard of them. Ask someone else said check out the review sites.
2. There is no problem hosting at one site and registering your domains at another site. Or even hosting your sites at the same host and two different registrar's is not a problem either.
3. People switch because web hosting is a vicious game. Lots of new companies under cutting others and overselling. The truth is this, basic html sites can be host just about anywhere. Its the critical sites that have 1000's of users that you need the best support and service for. You just have to find a good host and stick with em. I have my own server and can recommend Server Intellect for good support and servers. |

I've been hosting and registering domains with GoDaddy for years. While they are probably not the most technologically up to speed as some of them, they've always been good to me and they are constantly adding new features and always improving the interface. Plus I only play like $4 a month (I have basic hosting needs).
HTH - Regards,
