| Looking for good DB Hosting
Alright, well...I'm looking to host a friends MySQL databases on my webhost (1and1.com) and it appears that 1and1.com firewalls their database servers so you can only access them internally, meaning that I'd have to move my friends site, domain, etc, over to my webhost and I really don't want to do that. His webhost (dot5hosting.com) sucks when it comes to databases, but is pretty good about everything else. Anything MySQL-related runs REALLY slow on his host, whereas it does not on mine.
So, here's what I'm looking for. An inexpensive or free solution for 3 MySQL 5 Databases (1 forum, 1 Joomla, and 1 EQDKP). The database speed and uptime is my main concern. These are rather small databases, so I'm not concerned with space (I think they total around 2-3MB combined). Uptime is concerning the databases practically always available. I know there's always hickups, which is why I just want the typical 99.9% uptime guarantee.
I have to be able to perform backups on the databases, but I'm not concerned with storing them on the DB hosting site, as I have plenty of storage space between our 2 hosts. I also have to be able to actually administer the DB's, meaning that I have administrative access to phpmyadmin or something similar.
The last thing I'd need is more of a personal preference and not a necessity, but being able to customize the names of the 3 DB's would be nice, but as I said, not a necessity.
I've googled a bit and most of the inexpensive/free MySQL hosts either also have firewalled DB's or they do not permit high-transaction DB's such as forums. I need something that does not have a firewall and is able to perform transactions on all 3 DB's rather quickly and efficiently.
Any suggestions? An inexpensive webhost with fast, non-firewalled MySQL hosting capabilities is a good solution as well, but I really don't know any of the good webhosts out there anymore. Let me know what you think, thanks.

Probably to get you to pay for up-service. Even though you have a small database, it could be getting pegged a million times a day; that's traffic for the host and they want some return on it |
