The company that I work for is very upset at one of our hosting companies. They've been down quite often recently. If it's not that one host it's another.
My question is would it be fesiable to park our domain on a server on site (our facility) and redirect to one of our two hosts. We would keep a complete copy of our site on location and at both hosting companies.
If one were to go down, would we be able to redirect on site (domain parked on a server on our facility) to the other host? In a worst case senario we could even serve up the pages off our on site server.
We would build a dedicated web server, and order a second SDSL line (we're getting 4600 down 680 up on the one we have). Would this be enough bandwith just for a redirect? We are not there yet, but it could handle 1000-2000 hits a day without sacraficeing much speed.
We do try to build our pages to load fast, so they are not huge beasts or anything. Ancientdrum.com if your interested.
Thank you in advance for any input.
