    New to webmastering

    Ok I decided to get a proper website to advertise my computer building services. So I went ahead and signed up for the basic US$1/month (SG$1.66/month here) at 3ix.org. Anyone have experience with them? Well ok so I know how to create some basic html, Ive been reading up a bunch of guides and I've gotten that part together. Now the only thing I need to do is upload my code. How on earth do I go about doing that? I've scanned through a million guides on the 3ix website but I can't seem to find out how.

    I am stumpped. This is pretty overwhelming. So far what I have tried to do is create my main logo. I uploaded it to.. well something. The directory I think. How do I get it to be displayed as, well, my main page? Right now it seems to be some sort of sub-domain of some sort. Whatever you call it.

    Thats my site
    Index of /

    If you look at the hyperlinks, its the last one titled razorbytesHP.html.

    edit: ok never mind. I figured it out myself . You have to title it index.html. Phew. That took me an endless hour to figure out! At least I learned something new. My first day (actually make that 2 hours) of html

    This is how my little site looks so far
    Razorbytes Custom Computers

    Not much to look at, but I'm getting there!

    maybe i'm oversimplyfyingg........ i'd upload with filezilla

    FileZilla - The free FTP solution

    it'll ask for the domain name and password..

    eg ftp.pullymyfoot.net .... transferring files is as simple as drsgging and dropping - ofc you gotta keep the required directory structure.

    Thank you! But I got it figured out on my own

    Good days work there. Now I'm off to sleep

    edit: One more question. I used photobucket to host that image. Now I've got 10g of space on 3ix and 20gb of bandwidth. Both are overkills for me, so do you think I should host my images on 3ix or off photobucket? Which is more reliable? Because bandwidth or space is not a problem; I'll have trouble using 10mb of that space and 100mb of that bandwidth probably . Well at least for awhile.

    Keep us updated Pull. I'm in the process of doing the same thing, but I just haven't gotten to the webpage part yet. Although, that is one of the goals for this week, but we'll see.

    Good luck

    EDIT: (just saw yours)
    I'd use your host site, and not photobucket. Photobucket can be slow about loading in images sometimes.

    2nd what Karma just said.

    Photobucket is ok, but it would really be a moot point. If your hosting is down or unreliable it will affect your entire site so your page wouldn't be there to display the images even if they were hosted somewhere else. Not to mention its a tad more professional looking should someone actually notice the url of the images

    Okoy sure? Which host are you using? 3IX is completely awesome. I get 10GB of space, 20GB of bandwidth a month and all these cool features like email and things like that all for a measly US$1/month.

    Thanks for the tip. I have no host yet, like I said, I'm still working on this whole idea.
    Trying to get a cost estimate first of the whole thing, then go from there.

    And don't be shy to post any good guides you find.

    Well if you can use FTP that is the best way and then what I suggest is to upload them all to an folder label images. Makes it easy to navigate. From there I usually create sub folders for easier navigation, but you could use the main "root" folder, its just all about making it easiest for you and what you feel comfortable with.

    Hmm. I tried to upload my image to my site.

    http://66.7.218.166:2082/frontend/x/...ers%20long.jpg

    Does that turn up as an image to you? Ok so anyway I edited my html file and stuck that url in but now when I go to my page all I get is the word "image" instead of the image.

    Yeah you need to make sure you look at the actual "www" page looking at the src it looks like you've got the image location borked

    HTML Code:
    <IMG SRC="http://razorbytescomputers.com/frontend/x/files/showfile.html?dir=%2fhome%2frazorbyt%2fpublic_html&file=razorbytes%20custom%20computers%20long.jpg"image">
    if you have that in the root directory then the img src would just be
    HTML Code:
    <IMG SRC="http://razorbytescomputers.com/razorbytescustomcomputerslong.jpg">
    I think that's the filename you used, you should use shorter ones BTW.

    Are you using the Cpanel file manager to upload these or did you FTP them?

    Your welcome

    Man. YEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS. I finally got my image to display from the host! This is really frustrating. Now I know why it didn't work. I kept trying to get my image url from the protected domain (or whatever its called, sorry I don't know the proper terms ). I kept clicking "show file contents", instead of copying the file URL .

    Karma if you need anything ask away! I think I've got the basics figured out already . Took me three whole hours of trial and error though. Bed time for me

    All that pain for a few pathetic short lines of code.

    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Razorbytes Custom Computers</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <div style="text-align: center;"><IMG SRC="http://www.razorbytescomputers.com/images/razorbytes%20custom%20computers%20long.jpg"></div>
    </body>
    </html>
    With that said, I still feel pretty accomplished. My first website

    Razorbytes Custom Computers

    And you know what? This thread is going to end up helping you more than it ever helped me
